St Brendan’s College is looking forward to 2019 with much anticipation following the announcement of a significant number of staff appointments set to bring a major boost to the College’s curricular, extra-curricular and boarding offering for the new academic year.
St Brendan’s College Principal Mr Robert Corboy who hit the ground running as the 15th Principal of the College in 2018 will welcome Head of Boarding, Fr Pius Jones; Director of Rugby League, Mr Nathan Doyle; Vocational Education and Training Coordinator, Mr Andrew Lawrence; and full-time Boarding Recreation Officer, Mr Trent Gorrie for 2019; in addition to a strong list of staff across teaching, boarding and support roles.
“I was welcomed to St Brendan’s College in 2018 by a dedicated, experienced and committed team of approximately 170 staff across the College, so to have the opportunity to bring on board additional resources of such a high calibre in 2019 is wonderful news for our students, our staff and the entire College community,” Mr Corboy said.
“St Brendan’s College has long been recognised as one of Central Queensland’s leading schools, and we are pleased that with strong and increasing enrolment numbers for 2019 we can add to our staff with these new key positions as well as new teachers across music, maths, science, ITD, automotive and religion.”
“The College will welcome Fr Pius Jones to our Leadership Team as our new Head of Boarding and following a comprehensive boarding review in 2018, we look forward to Fr Pius bringing his extensive knowledge of boarding – having worked in three boarding schools; with two of those as Head of Boarding – to benefit our boarding community,” Mr Corboy said.
“St Brendan’s College is renowned on the sporting field, and to support our extra-curricular offering, we have appointed Mr Nathan Doyle as the Director of Rugby League to support our existing Head of Sport, Mr Dallas Williams, to ensure that students interested in pursuing rugby league and our wide range of sporting codes have the greatest opportunity to develop their skills.”
“Nathan Doyle is well-known in the rugby league community as a teacher and a rugby league coach and comes to the College from Mackay High School as a Head of Department and coach of their Rugby League Academy.
“Mr Andrew Lawrence is also well-known in the Rockhampton teaching and sporting community, and we are excited for him to join our teaching team as our Vocational Education and Training Coordinator; an area the College has significant strength in and one we are sure Mr Lawrence will add significant value to with his experience and leadership.”
“In our boarding community, joining Fr Pius and our dedicated and caring House Parents and boarding supervisors will be Mr Trent Gorrie who will take on the role of full-time Recreation Officer so that our boys are kept active and engaged when they come home to boarding at SBC.”
“As an SBC Old Boy, Trent returns to the Capricorn Coast and to St Brendan’s College with significant experience as a boarding house parent in northern Queensland and the Northern Territory and as a sports development professional in both these states and we are certain he will add significant value to our boarding team.”
“New and returning families arriving at St Brendan’s College in 2019 can look forward to a strong and reinvigorated staffing team and as the Principal I am excited to lead this team on what I am sure will be a great year for the College community.”
