St Brendan’s College Walks Against Domestic Violence on Edmund Rice Feast Day

General Monday, 12 May 2025

On Friday, 2 May, St Brendan’s College students and staff marked Edmund Rice Feast Day with our annual Walk Against Domestic Violence — a meaningful expression of our commitment to social justice and respectful relationships.

The day began with a powerful address from Nick Kenny — former NRL player, Brisbane Broncos representative, and now the Broncos' Wellbeing and Education Manager. Nick shared insights from his professional sporting career and spoke to the boys about respectful relationships, personal responsibility, and the important role young men play in shaping a safer and more supportive society. His honest and inspiring message set the tone for the day and deeply resonated with our students.

Following the address, the College community walked together from campus to Yeppoon Main Beach, proudly wearing our Not Now, Not Ever shirts in a strong and visible stance against domestic and family violence.

As a Catholic school in the Edmund Rice tradition, our Touchstones — particularly Justice and Solidarity and Inclusive Community — guide us to be a community of action. This walk is more than a tradition; it is a demonstration of the values we strive to instil in our young men: empathy, advocacy, and the courage to stand up for others.

We thank Nick Kenny for his time and impactful contribution, and we commend our students and staff for their respectful and purposeful participation. Together, we walk for awareness, for change, and for a future where all people feel safe and supported.
