Agriculture Tuesday, 10 June 2025

What a weekend for the St Brendan’s College community at the Yeppoon Show — a celebration of talent, teamwork, and cultural pride!

The SBC Cattle Team led the way with impressive results across the board. We kicked off with a 1st place in the Interbreed Class, with St Ursula’s student Elizabeth Lawrence leading our champion heifer “Holly” to victory. Geoff Press placed 3rd with our home-bred bull “Vince,” and Josh Williams secured 2nd with “Tynan.”

In the Exhibitors Class, Tom Spies (with Tynan), Digby Sauer (with Holly), and St Ursula’s Maggie Hawke (with Jules) delivered strong performances, earning 2nd overall.

The wins kept coming in the Steer Class, with Lawson Sedgman taking 1st with “Bendee” and Beau Upton placing 2nd with “Banana.”

Our students also shone in the Paraders competition, with Angus Crawford claiming 1st, Sam Flood 3rd, and Mackenzie Finall 4th.

In Junior Judging, Lawson Sedgman came 1st in the under 13's and Josh Williams achieved 2nd, and Angus Crawford came 6th in the 14–15 age group.

We were also incredibly proud to see our Indigenous Dancers take to the main stage, delivering a moving and powerful performance that honoured culture, identity, and storytelling.

From agriculture to the arts, SBC was well and truly represented at this year’s show. What an incredible demonstration of school spirit and community collaboration!

Among the many highlights from this year’s local Agricultural Show were the outstanding achievements of two of our students in the led horse events. Lawson Sedgeman, with Aventine Hill, claimed 1st place in the Led Thoroughbred Gelding class and went on to be awarded Champion Led Thoroughbred of the Show – an exceptional result. Geffery Press also represented the College with pride, placing 3rd in the same class with his horse Chilli. Both horses are generously provided by Ms Haidee Psaltis, who leads our College Horse Riding Club and offers her own stock to give boys the opportunity to train and compete. We are incredibly grateful for her ongoing support, which continues to strengthen the hands-on learning and experiences available through our equine and agricultural programs at St Brendan’s College.

Our involvement in the local agricultural show is a proud reflection of who we are — a College grounded in hard work, community spirit, and a deep respect for the land. I want to thank our staff, students, and families for their outstanding efforts. Your passion and commitment continue to showcase the very best of St Brendan’s.
