SBC and STU combine for renowned Beauty and the Beast Musical

The story has been told the world over in musicals and Hollywood movies, and in 2019 it is Yeppoon’s turn to showcase the renowned Beauty and the Beast fairytale, as St Brendan’s and St Ursula’s College students combine to perform the musical extravaganza from 20 to 27 July 2019 at the SBC Performing Arts Centre.

A cast of more than 40 have been led by Director Brother Steve Grundy, with a dedicated orchestral support team and a production crew of significant talents bringing together two wonderful hours of dialogue, singing, music, sets and costumes that will amaze and delight.

The combined colleges are calling on the community to support the performances and be taken on a wonderful musical journey with local students: Harry Shepherd as The Beast, Annie Emery and Jessica Keily as Belle, Minette Boyd and Ellen Walsh as Mrs Potts, Blake Jarman and Dayne Linke as Gaston, Lillian Lawrence and Chloe Simmonds as Cogsworth, Caleb Bartlett and Bailey Howard as Lumiere, Darby Twidale and Harry Hersey as Lefou and many more!

The initial scene is set by narrator, Year 12 student Darby Twidale, who takes the audience to a faraway land and a castle with a spoiled, selfish prince within, who is turned into a hideous Beast by an Old Beggar Woman who asked for shelter from the bitter, winter cold, in return for a single rose, and was turned away.

In return, the old woman placed a powerful spell on the castle and all who lived there. Ashamed of his monstrous form, the Beast concealed himself within the castle; but the rose the old beggar woman gave, was truly enchanted and would bloom for many years. If the Beast could learn to love another and earn their love in return before the final petal fell, the spell would be broken!

Head of Music Mr Jack Ingram made special mention of the significant hours Brother Grundy, the students, staff and parents have given to ensure a wonderful show for the local community.

“The cast have been rehearsing since February 2019 after school and every weekend and I applaud them for their efforts, as well as our music and teaching staff and parents who pull together each time to stage a number of entertaining performances,” Mr Ingram said.

The community are encouraged to attend to hear and see some amazing young talent with three public shows - 1.30pm Saturday 20 July, 7pm Friday 26 July and 5pm Saturday 27 July 2019.
