Thursday 20 August saw St Brendan’s College in Yeppoon taken over by 153 boys, many local but some from as far afield as Katherine in the Northern Territory. The rookies are mostly boys who will be starting YR 7 in 2021 exploring high school for the first time, others transferring into various levels.St Brendan’s College hosts a Discovery Day annually so potential students can experience a ‘day in the life’ of a St Brendan’s student.
Rookies, mentored by current year 11 students, followed a typical day experiencing Manual Arts with students making a key ring, Science where a few awesome experiments were conducted, Sport had them running dodge and life drawing got creativity flowing in Art.
For those new to high school it provides a simple understanding and grounding prior to commencing the following year. For those who are transferring it provides a solid overview of the College. Both enable all students an easier transition.
It is a fantastic way to assist students to adjust to a new environment and to share with current students, their future peers, the experience they are likely to have in joining the St Brendan’s College Family.
Parents also have the opportunity to meet with the Principal and key staff at the end of the day over a Sunset Tour.
St Brendan’s College has been a leader in boys’ education in Central Queensland since 1940. It is a day and boarding school for boys from Years 7 to 12, located on a beautiful 300 acres only minutes to the beaches of Yeppoon, and half an hour from Rockhampton. It provides a provision of diverse academic and extra-curricular programs, giving boys significant opportunities to grow into young men of knowledge, respect and faith.
