SBC Old Boys' Foundation

Legal Structure & Governance:

St Brendan’s College Foundation Ltd (ACN 010 999 774) is a not-for-profit company that exists to support the development of St Brendan’s College and its students.  The Foundation is a separate company governed by a board of directors appointed by members but remains a controlled entity of the College with the College Principal appointed as an ex-officio company director.  The Foundation’s accounts are audited by the College Auditor.

The company is registered with the Australian Securities & Investments Commission (ACN 010 999 774) and the Australian Charities & Not-For-Profits Commission.  The company’s constitution, annual returns and audited financial statements can be viewed by typing the ABN 31 010 999 774 into the search field at the ACNC website.

History:

The Foundation was established in 1989 in advance of the College Golden Jubilee and raised almost $1 million for the College until it suspended its activities in the 2010’s.  Below is a list of directors of the company:

  7. Russell Searles (SBC 1962), 2 February 1992 to 26 August 1999
  8. John William Smith (SBC 1958), 17 September 1992 to 26 August 1999
  9. Peter William McKenna (SBC, 1965), 29 May 2007 to 12 March 2015

In 2015, responsibility for the company was handed to Cameron Wright (SBC 1986-88), Mark Boyd 1979-83 and Cale Dendle (1986-90) along with the College Principal.  Since that time, the Foundation has focused its fundraising efforts on a series of events:

  • The inaugural Foundation Race Day was held at Keppel Park Yeppoon in August 2016.
  • The inaugural Foundation Golf Day was held at Capricorn Resort in January 2017.
  • The inaugural Foundation AGM Dinner held in Yeppoon in May 2017.
  • The inaugural Brisbane Sportsman’s Dinner was held at The Caxton Hotel in Brisbane in June 2017.
  • The inaugural Old Boys XV vs Rockhampton Grammar Rugby Match was held in August 2019.
  • The Old Boys Rugby League Team plays annually against the Seniors/1st XIII and plays period matches against other teams.  The Old Boys won the Rocky 9’s carnival in 2018.
  • There is a series of regional Old Boy Dinners/Functions, including in Townsville, Mackay and Gladstone.

In April 2020, John McKenna (Founding Director and Chairman 1989 to 2015) was admitted as the Foundation’s first Life Member.

Membership:

We encourage membership by all SBC Old Boys, current and past parents and friends of the College. The membership fees are currently:

  • $20 per annum for Year 12 School Leavers;
  • $50 per annum for SBC teachers
  • $50 per annum for SBC Old Boys age Under 25; and
  • $100 per annum for others.
  • $200 per annum family membership for up to five members. Any additional (immediate) family member $25pp.
