The St Brendan's College Rodeo is a significant event on the annual calendar, with the event running for its 23rd year in 2018. The event will be held from 12 noon on Saturday 1 September 2018, with a slight change to the program this year whereby the SBC Boys get their chance to shine on Friday 31 August in the SBC Boys' Rodeo and the Trans Tasman High School Rodeo Challenge from 5pm.
While belt buckles and cowboy hats might seem out of place at the beach, St Brendan’s College strong rural history was the impetus for the event’s commencement, offering a chance for rural students to hone their bull riding skills and for regional families to make a family weekend visit for all the rodeo action. Today, it’s not only a chance for avid rodeo riders to compete in the open bull ride, team roping, saddle bronc and ladies barrel racing but a chance for the Capricorn Coast and St Brendan’s community to see all the thrills and spills of rodeo right on their doorstep.
The event is organised primarily by the College Parents & Friends Association as their major fundraiser for the year. Proceeds from the event are used to purchase equipment and support upgrades to facilities at the College.
