New dedicated Year 7 Boarding Residence for 2020

Unprecedented demand for enrolment at St Brendan’s College, Central Queensland’s leading secondary boarding and day school for boys in Yeppoon, has prompted the College to fast-track plans for renovation and redesign of a new boarding residence for 2020, Wallace Residence, as a dedicated space for Year 7 boarders.

Principal Mr Robert Corboy said the College was experiencing unprecedented interest for day and boarding enrolments across the Year 7 to 12 offering, and plans were well underway to extend the College’s boarding facilities beyond the three current residences to recommission and redesign Wallace Residence as a modern, inviting space for the youngest students of the College.

“Our master plan includes the addition of Wallace as a Year 7 residence, new classrooms, a multi-million dollar science and information technology centre and improvements to our VET and Trade Training Centre over the next few years as part of the ongoing modernisation of our facilities,” Mr Corboy said.

“We will welcome more than 250 boarders and our largest total enrolment number of approximately 800 in 2020 so we are pleased that parents and families are supportive of our education framework based on the specific learning needs of boys, of our Edmund Rice ethos and our overall boarding and education offering.”

“The Wallace accommodation areas are being completely refurbished including air-conditioning, a new parent and visitor area and a redesign of the common areas; and this will go hand in hand with a dedicated team of caring staff to support these young students as they transition from home to boarding life,” he said.

“We understand that boarding can be daunting for a young person, which is why St Brendan’s has made the decision to offer a unique Year 7 only dormitory to care for our newest students, with activities and resources to suit the specific interests of young teens.”

“This new residence will then allow us to meet increased boarding demand for Years 8 to 11 across our three existing boarding residences - Fitzpatrick, Edmund Rice and McKennariey.”

“Our oldest residence McKennariey will undergo a facelift for 2020 including upgrades to its external façade, gardens and BBQ and recreation area, with all our boarding residences included in plans for capital improvements in coming years including air-conditioning.”

“Our message to families who are interested in Year 7 boarding for 2020, and indeed all day and boarding applications for next year, to ensure these are submitted as soon as possible to give the best opportunity for acceptance into St Brendan’s College.”

“We have new boarders accepted from as far afield as Longreach and Charleville in the west, Roma in the south and Katherine in NT in the north, joining with a large number of local students and we look forward to these young men discovering the enormous range of opportunities across the curriculum and extra-curricular program at SBC.”

Enrolment information can be found on the St Brendan’s College website with a new online enrolment portal expected soon to offer flexibility for local and regional application -  https://www.stbrendans.qld.edu.au/enrolments/
