This week Weld Australia was on site putting students through an industry level welding accreditation. The Year 11 Engineering students were given the opportunity to train to AS/NZS ISO 9606.1. This is great example of how the College is working along-side industry partners towards making students industry-ready before they leave school. Trent and Nat from All Industries were also on site as part of a continuing relationship that aids staff and students to apply industry standards to College procedures.
Weld Australia is an industry leader that facilitates the growth of world class welding in Australia and St Brendan’s College is the first school to have worked alongside them to put students through both the training and welder qualification. This week they have used innovative technology that employs Augmented Reality (AR), to allow students to grasp the basics of welding techniques before they are then able to apply their knowledge using the College’s state of the art MIG industry standard welders. Weld Australian has previously only been able to offer this opportunity to employees through industry training.
The students and teachers instigated a friendly competition during the AR training to see who could achieve the highest score with Tyler Jocumsen matching the high score of 96%. These students will now walk away with a qualification that makes them instantly employable. The College is looking forward to working alongside these and new industry partners to provide students with these incredible opportunities.
