St Brendan’s College has once again etched its name into Confraternity rugby league history, claiming the 2026 Confraternity Shield and securing the College’s 15th Shield title. The achievement further strengthens the College’s standing as one of the most successful rugby league programs in Confraternity Carnival history.
In an emotional and inspiring campaign, the First XIII demonstrated the courage, resilience and brotherhood that have become hallmarks of St Brendan’s rugby league. Their journey culminated in a thrilling 16-14 victory over St Laurence’s College in the Confraternity Shield Final, a contest that tested the character and determination of the team right to the final whistle.
The victory was built on much more than talent. Throughout the final, the side was forced to overcome several injuries, yet the players refused to surrender. When captain Lockyer Hill was forced from the field early in the first half through a HIA, the team dug even deeper, rallying around one another and displaying the grit, determination and mateship that define the St Brendan’s College spirit.
Their commitment to the green and gold jersey was evident from the opening whistle to the final siren as they fought to win every moment, ultimately securing a memorable victory and bringing the Confraternity Shield back to Yeppoon.
The carnival also brought significant individual recognition for Brendan’s players. Lockyer Hill was named St Brendan’s Player of the Carnival, acknowledging his outstanding leadership and contribution throughout the week. Harry Roebig received the prestigious Spirit Award, while Jake Symes was honoured with the Player of the Final Award, following on from a strong display throughout the carnival.

These names represent some of the finest players to have competed at Confraternity and reflect the strength of the College’s rugby league tradition.
This latest Shield victory is a testament to the dedication of the players, coaches, support staff, families, Old Boys and supporters who continue to uphold the proud legacy of St Brendan’s College rugby league. Their commitment has helped build a tradition of excellence spanning more than four decades.

On 20 July, the team, coaches, sponsors and support staff came together in the hall to celebrate the achievement, with members of the victorious First XIII proudly unveiling the 2026 Confraternity Shield victory sticker. The unveiling of the newest honour on the College's Confraternity display wall was a special moment for students and staff, officially recognising the team's contribution to the rich rugby league history of St Brendan’s College.
Principal Paul Horan, members of the coaching staff, sponsors, and supporters gathered in the St Brendan's College Hall for the unveiling of the 2026 Rugby League sticker.
The sticker now takes its place alongside the previous championship years, serving as a lasting reminder of a team that embodied resilience, courage and brotherhood while delivering the College's 15th Confraternity Shield title.
The celebration was a chance to reflect on an unforgettable carnival and acknowledge the many people whose support helped make the achievement possible. Over plenty of KFC and shared memories, the team expressed their gratitude to our major sponsors and supporters, including JRT, represented by Brad Nevan, NRG Services and Old Boy Travis Leo, and Bindi Minto from Minto Finance Group/Elders Real Estate Yeppoon.

A special presentation saw Kobe Oberhardt, recipient of the Coaches' Award, receive one of two jerseys donated by St Brendan’s Old Boy and current Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs NRL player Kurt Mann. The second jersey was presented to AJ Gilbert by Rod Peckett in recognition of his play of the carnival that saw his trademark brutal defence on full display in the semi-final against Iona.
Addressing the team, Head Coach Scott Minto thanked the players for their commitment to one another throughout the carnival and the brotherhood displayed both on and off the field. He also acknowledged the valuable support of Brad Garraway and Len Harper, whose contributions played an important role in the team's successful campaign.
As celebrations continue across the College community, the achievements of the 2026 First XIII will be remembered not only for lifting the Shield, but also for the character they displayed throughout the carnival and the pride they brought to generations of Brendan’s men.
