St Brendan’s College proudly congratulates Old Boy Brett Pointing, who has been appointed as Queensland’s Interim Police Commissioner.

Brett attended St Brendan’s College until 1976, before leaving to pursue a career in policing, joining the Queensland Police Service as a Police Cadet in 1978 and later being sworn in as a Police Officer in 1981.

From the 1975 St Brendan’s College Australian Rules team to Queensland Acting Police Commissioner — a remarkable journey of leadership and service.

Over more than four decades of distinguished service, Commissioner Pointing has served in a wide range of investigative and leadership roles across Queensland, including the Drug Squad, Stock Investigation Squad and Criminal Investigation Branches. He progressed through the ranks from Inspector and Superintendent to Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and now Interim Police Commissioner.

A respected leader, Brett played a pivotal role in coordinating the Queensland Police response during the devastating 2010–11 natural disasters and has been instrumental in initiatives targeting organised crime, supporting frontline policing and strengthening protections for victims of domestic and family violence.

His outstanding contribution to policing has been recognised through numerous honours, including the Australian Police Medal, Queensland Police Service Medal, National Police Medal, National Emergency Medal and Meritorious Service Award.

From his days at St Brendan’s College to leading Queensland’s largest law enforcement agency, Brett’s career reflects a lifetime of service, leadership and commitment to the community.

We congratulate Brett on this remarkable achievement and wish him every success as he begins his tenure as Queensland’s Interim Police Commissioner.
