Study Hub

We are fully aware that study and academic performance are some of the most important elements for a parent when considering boarding choices for their son.  There are two distinct study options for boarding students at St Brendan's College.

Study - Boarding Residences

For Year 7 to 10 and non-OP students, nightly study occurs at the boys' desks or in a dedicated Study Area in dorm. This is scheduled from 7pm to 8pm Monday to Thursdays, and Sundays from 7pm to 8pm.  The purpose of nightly study is to complete homework set by teachers and for completion of assignments and general revision.  All boys have access to their school-provided laptops. The rules of nightly study are as follows:

  • Students must be prepared for the work they will be doing
  • Students must not disturb other students
  • No one leaves the room or talks during study
  • No mobile phones are to be used in nightly study
  • Headphones may be allowed at the discretion of staff on duty.

Study Hub - Library

Study Hub is an initiative provided for both boarding and day students to extend the academic opportunities and performance of our students.  Study Hub operates from 6.30pm to 8.30pm every Monday to Thursday night at the College Library (from Week 2 of each term).

Study Hub is staffed by dedicated College teachers and its main purpose is to mentor students in planning, organisation, good study habits as well as tracking their academic progress.  Study Hub is primarily aimed at Year 10 boarders in extension classes, Year 11 OP students and all Year 12's. All other Year 10 to 12 students are welcome to attend and utilise the opportunity to work individually.  Study Hub is a silent study space for academic students to work individually, and as such it is not suitable for group work or spoken homework activities.
